In the vast wilderness of Mozambique’s Zambeze Delta, where lions roam free and helicopters patrol the skies in the name of protection, a quiet force has been helping transform the landscape of conservation: the Cabela Family Foundation.

At Zambeze Delta Safaris, we believe that conservation isn’t about quick fixes or flashy headlines it’s about dedication, patience, and people willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work. The Cabela Family Foundation embodies that spirit, and their involvement in Coutada 11 has become a cornerstone of our success story.

Eyes in the Sky, Boots on the Ground

One of the most impactful additions to our operations has been the helicopter bearing the iconic Cabela “C” a symbol of the family’s steadfast commitment to wildlife. This helicopter has revolutionized our monitoring and anti-poaching strategies, giving us the ability to respond quickly to threats, track animals, and oversee vast areas of wilderness that would otherwise be impossible to reach in time.

But it’s not just about the tools. It’s about the people.
The Cabela Family Foundation recognizes the unsung heroes of conservation the biologists, veterinarians, anti-poaching teams, and local community members whose daily efforts often go unnoticed. Through their “Hard Truths of Conservation” video series, they shine a light on these individuals, giving credit where it’s due and telling the real stories behind conservation victories.

For the Cabela family, this isn’t just philanthropy it’s personal. Every visit to the Delta sees them working side by side with our team, whether it’s darting and collaring wildlife, documenting efforts through powerful storytelling, or simply taking time to understand the intricate balance of this ecosystem. As one of their team members shared, “There are few things more rewarding than spending a few days with family and friends, rolling up the sleeves and working to further enhance ongoing conservation efforts at one of the best examples of ecosystem restoration on planet Earth.” We couldn’t agree more
